Memorial Day 2009

Today I went to "Mountain View Cemetary" to my grandparents grave. I know it is the day to remember fallen soldiers, but I remembered the people who gave life to my Mother. I recalled memories, shed some tears, prayed and, of course, cleaned up the grave a little. Mom met me there and we shared some emotions and memories. Life is so precious and that little dash is so short, even at its longest.
Spring is just arriving here, so between that and the drought, it isn't so pretty looking. I took a picture of the view from the grave for my far away relatives. I loved the many flags flying in this little country cemetary.

I love walking around cemetaries, as I've blogged before. Today, I took a few pictures of some graves that intrigue me.

We are remembered by passerbys whether our graves are elaborate or just plain and simple. I prefer to plain and simple. I did get a chuckle that the older gravestones say "borned". Hmmmm...that verb has evolved over time.
Happy Memorial Day. I hope you have good memories, cleansing tears and deep, deep breaths of air because you are still here. Make your dash count.

A recent whirlwind

A Memorial weekend tradition...driving over to see the bikes in Red River. This one, we've seen before, but it always gets our attention.
67 years makes no difference when it comes to friendship and love! I had to take a picture of these two beauties walking in Red River. Cathryn and Jess.

View from the 3rd seat of my car...rain, motorcycles, dreams of the tropics and my hubby.

Jess and Janna got "Most Dedicated Player" awards at the basketball banquet. These two are an unstoppable team! Kind at heart, mean on the court!

Cody Got "Most Improved Player" award from his band teacher. A great honor!

Cody, in the back row, and Jess in the second row. This is ALL of the district concert bands playing together. 6th grade thru 12th. WOW.
Elizabeth, Jess and Janna...the flutie girls!

Who needs comics when you can grade journals!?

I was grading journals this weekend. My students come into the classroom in the morning, grab their journals and write a page of whatever is on their mind. I have a new student from Texas...those Texans, ya know...and he CRACKS.ME.UP!!! He is stone faced and intelligent. So far, in one week of school, I've been educated on all kinds of dogs, the lengths of their tongues, etc. etc. I had to call my family in when I read this page:

Happy Mother's Day and more

This is the BEST MOM ever!! (sitting with the BEST DAD ever)
Happy birthday, Jerry. notice Jess's pictures and how her mouth is shaped just like his. He shaved off his mustache and beard just so she could see. To tell the truth, I think she wanted him to glue it all back on!

This is Jess's truck for our school trunk show. She researched Germany and this is her project. She gave an encore presentation for our guests today!

Confession

Tis the season for the fishermen to be out in force along the river. I love how they appear to be concentrating so hard like it is a life or death matter. I love the serene atmosphere, the expensive gear....it all leads up to one big, big, temptation that I've fought off up to this point...as I drive by day after day, I really, really, REALLY want to honk my horn and make them jump!

Lately

Our town put on a parade for our STATE CHAMPION concert band. That is Cody the Bari sax man on the end of the truck.
This is Cody running in our high school district track meet. His first track meet as a Running Ram.

A visitor yesterday at our back steps.

And our next visitor five minutes later. This time, Jerry was under the tractor and the dogs started acting wierd. He thought the neighbors were walking over and looked up. This is what he saw. Both are bull snakes and were both taken to the side of the hill and let go after a brief discussion about those gophers.... This one had just about had enough of two dogs barking at him.

Jerry ran away from home and came home with 2 turkeys. Cody couldn't go this time due to the track meet, but Barry and Jerry had fun without him.

Question

I'm ready to customize my blog and make it cute and not so generic. How do I go about that? Advise me, please!
